Microsoft 365 Agent Toolkit - Building OnboardingBuddy part 3

1 min read

Create a Copilot agent with one line.

I assumed creating an agent meant clicking through a wizard In either the Copilot app or the web GUI. Apparentley you can just use a single command for that:

atk new -c declarative-agent -n onboarding-buddy -i false

What the flags do:

  • -c picks the template (the "capability") which in this case is the declarative-agent capability
  • -n names the project
  • -i false turns off the interactive prompts so i dont have to answer any questions about the project.

I didn't know which templates existed, so I asked the CLI:

atk list templates

This has come in handy in a lot of CLIs, i'm using it to create a new classlib in dotnet since i can't remember the spelling

You'll find declarative agents with actions, custom engine agents and more. And if you would rather start from a finished example, atk list samples shows those.

The result is a folder with an app manifest, the agent's instructions and an m365agents.yml that describes how it gets provisioned.

Onboarding Buddy status: the project exists. Next week it answers its first question in Copilot.
